about a year ago, I kept getting verbally harassed and a few times i got physically harassed in public (in tim hortons near aurora high school and in fleury park) because of my race (i am of persian decent), the first time (of physical harassment was in fleury park) i was walking home from shoppers going through this park and two people blocked my way (one girl and one boy), the girl kept attacking me with questions about my race and i started to get a panic attack when the girl came about 5 inches away from me, i asked her to step away (which she did), then she started walking up to me again and it triggered my panic attack but it was worse, so i pushed her away, she came running toward me and tried to throw some punches but i grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the ground. when i got home i told my parents everything and they said to go to the police. when we got to the police station in newmarket, we filed a report and after i have explained everything the officer said it was just self defense. then the next day that girls friends come up to me just to hear "my side of the story" and i tried to explain but one of the girls kept calling me a liar, a terrorist and kept asking me if this was a terrorist attack, and calling awful this that related to my race. at one point she said the canada is her country and that i was her slave and she could do anything she wants and such as punch me, i got very upset and mad that i asked her to leave and she said no and i got up and pushed her away from me and told her to leave me alone and she came back and punched me 3 times, i went home later that day and covered the bruise on my face so my mom and dad don't notice, 2 or 3 days later my mom saw my bruises and asked me what had happened she went to tim hortons and yelled at them for not calling the police and a high school student shouldnt be bullying and harassing a girl in elementary school, tim hortons called police, a cop came to my house and had asked what had happened, then they went to the other girls house and asked what had happened they took the girls side, they said that they wanted children's aids society to come to our house. a nice young woman came to our house talked to my parents and i individually, she then said that our family was very stable and that i was in a very stable and regular family. in the end i don't think that the newmarket police department is very equal with other races (such as iranians), also because of them i didn't feel safe in aurora anymore, but because of my education i decided to stay there until i transferred because most of the people in my school was racist.
